Music is the greatest hiding place. Music is a way to answer questions. Music is an expression when words can't do you justice. Music brings out emotion and tells a story like no other. Music is happiness to my soul.
I love Love LOVE to listen to music. I love to sing. I love to worship. I love to write music and write lyrics. I have written many songs throughout the years, some of which no one has ever heard nor read. Some, I have shared to only those that will listen. Sometimes just singing and strumming my guitar to myself is ALL I need. It is a form of therapy, it is a form of relaxation. It is purposefully meant to sooth my soul and ease my mind. One of the greatest gifts you could ever give yourself, is to find your passion and use it for the greater good. Not for fame, not for acceptance, not for praise. The passion I have for music and singing isn't for people to hear, it's for people to feel. It isn't for people to see me, it's for people to see Christ through me.
“If a song can hit you that far down inside and make you cry, it's a song worth loving."
So let's talk about some music that'll make you feel. What are my top five songs that reach my soul? To speak truthfully, I have many favorite songs, but spiritually, I have many more worship songs that just have those powerful lyrics that you can't compete with. Now, to narrow it down to five, I will need to speak present time. So, with the year 2019 ending, let's categorize this as my top five worship songs of the year 2019!
1. Lord, I Need You
-It doesn't matter what I am going through, you will always hear me softly speak those words, "Lord, I need you!" I am a firm believer in prayer and when I am in need of some Jesus, this is a go-to song!
2. It is Well
-Anytime you take a hymn and make it contemporary, I fall in love. This is a great song for those that love the traditional hymns. Sometimes we have to take the punches people, and just accept that punch is part of life. So when those moments arise, all you can do is fall to your knees, close your eyes, and admit that God is greater than all of it. He has total control of your heart and soul and i t i s w e l l...
3. You Say
-Talk about words that beat you down, and people who shut you out. Talk about those people that find every power in their being to make you feel worthless and not good enough, that have to put you down to lift themselves up. When I first heard this song, I cried. When I first sang this song in church, I cried. If a song can hit you that far down inside and make you cry, it's a song worth loving. Sometimes I hear people say, "I don't want to watch that movie or hear that song, because it makes me cry." I say, bring it on. I want to feel every emotion I can, so I can fight my weaknesses and conquer my sorrows, because that is what this song does. It allows me to be vulnerable, but find that greater power. This song allows me to know that the only one person's opinion that should matter to me, is His.
4. What A Beautiful Name
-There are A LOT of powerful words in this song, but the finest of those is when it say's, "You didn't want heaven without us, so you brought heaven down." Not many people realize the importance of those lines. Think about it.
5. Holy Spirit
-Worship ministry means a lot to me. Every Sunday my Praise band and I have 4 songs to sing. Add those up, and we have 192 possibly opportunities to sing a song that will do it's only purpose, not let our light shine, but let God's light shine. This song is a wonderful worship song and one my favorite songs to share with others.
What's Next?
This blog was created with many intentions. But, the most important intention was to speak what the silence needs to say. It was made to allow myself to talk to those that will listen and share my feelings with those that care. Music is just the same. It speaks when words fail to.
My hope is to share with you some tunes and lyrics that I have written as well as those favorite worship songs through my blog. This will enable me to continue my music ministry outside of church and fulfill God's purpose.
I look forward to sharing with you more...
